Concrete was flaking off and falling to the ground, endangering the buildings and workers below as well as those nearby. Adjacent to the site is a house. I asked the homeowner about the tower, and she told me it had been demolished a couple years earlier. The KS-horn antennas on the roof relayed TD-2 traffic between Catawba and the telephone building in downtown Dayton. As can be seen in this aerial photo, a short A-style steel tower was affixed to the roof of the concrete tower, most likely to obtain additional height to allow use of the higher TH and TJ frequency bands as was accomplished at Catawba with a separate steel tower adjacent to the concrete tower.
