Tower 2

Closeup of some of tower 2 showing the FM line. The FM station (WOIA-FM) signed on in 1962 on 102.9 MHz. It was short-spaced to WBRB-FM, 102.7 in Mt Clemens on the other side of Detroit. It was one of the last FM stations authorized before the FCC changed to an allocation system based on station class, maximum power and distance separation. When the FM signed on, it was assigned the callsign WOIA and the AM station was reassigned WOIB. At the time, AM and FM stations could only share a callsign if they were licensed to the same city. In this case, the AM was licensed to Saline and the FM to Ann Arbor.
